  WHAT HAPPENED?

  Atletico had reached an agreement with Osasuna over Areso, and believed the player would be ultimately sold to them. However, in a dramatic turn of events, Osasuna sanctioned his move to Athletic. The Rojiblancos were informed that if Athletic want to sign the player, they would have to pay the amount mentioned in the release clause. However, according to , Osasuna ignored the agreement and sold the player to the Basque club, which has humiliated the Metropolitano club.

  Atletico were in search of a right-back and opted for Areso, 26, as a perfect fit for Diego Simeone's philosophy, considering the player amassed 40 appearances last season, showcasing valuable contributions in Osasuna's defensive third.
